Report scope 1 GHG emissions

Report emissions from fuel use, distance travelled and money spent on fuel in your organisation, in compliance with GHG protocol scope 1

Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from company-owned and controlled resources.  They are divided into four categories:

  • Stationary combustion: These emissions result from the combustion of fuels in stationary sources (boilers, furnaces, turbines) to produce electricity and generate steam or heat.
  • Mobile combustion: These emissions result from the combustion of fuels in company owned/controlled mobile combustion sources (e.g., trucks, trains, ships, aeroplanes, buses, and cars)
  • Fugitive emissions : These emissions result from intentional or unintentional releases, e.g., equipment leaks from joints, seals, packing, and gaskets; methane emissions from coal mines and venting; hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) emissions during the use of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; and methane leakages from gas transport.
  • Process emissions: released during industrial processes, on-site manufacturing

To summarise, the emissions from all the fuels used by the organisation are reported under Scope 1.

See all inputs and outputs on the technical API documentation.

Inputs

This endpoint receives:

  • a data source (location) for the calculations
  • the date for which the footprint should be computed
  • For every company-owned asset that releases CO2e emissions, the following information:
    • A unique identifier, used to track the emissions of the specific asset.
    • Activity data, expressed in one of the three available types:
  • Fuel use
    • Fuel type
    • Unit (litres or kWh)
    • Value
  • Distance travelled
    • Vehicle type
    • Unit (km)
    • Value
  • Money spent on fuel
    • Fuel type
    • Unit (NOK)
    • Value

Please note that filling all inputs  for at least one type of activity data is mandatory. If you choose to fill inputs  for more than one type of activity data, there exists a preference hierarchy for which activity data is used, based of the accuracy each type of data gives:

  1. Fuel
  2. Distance travelled
  3. Money spent on fuel. Note that spending to kWh conversion is currently only available for limited fuels ( diesel and gasoline) with support for other fuels types coming soon.

Outputs

This endpoint outputs:

  • Total GHG emissions (in kg CO2e)
  • For each entry
    • Unique identifier
    • GHG emissions (in kg CO2e)

Calculations and sources

  • Fuel Used:
    • Data Source: DEFRA
    • Description: To calculate emissions resulting from the combustion of different fuels, we source emissions data from DEFRA. This dataset includes direct and well-to-tank (WTT) emissions for various fuel types.
  • Distance Travelled:
    • Data Sources: Various Sources
    • Description: To determine emissions from travel, we utilisze emissions data for different vehicles obtained from a combination of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies and yearly reports. For detailed information on the data sources for each mode of transport, please refer to the "Convert Transport" section.
  • Fuel Prices:
    • Data Sources:
      • Bensin and Diesel: SSB ( Source)
      • District heat: SSB (Source)
    • Description: Fuel prices for different types of fuels are obtained from respective sources. Prices for gasoline and diesel come from SSB, hydrogen prices from a specific source, biodiesel and bio gasoline prices from another specific source, and ethanol prices are based on IEA statistics.
